Where the leather goes...

Ruth Emily Davey Shoes

Lots of my leather finds its way to the hands of the incredible team at RED shoes, where it get turned into long lasting, bespoke shoes, boots and sandles.
You can visit the webiste to order, or visit their store where you can choose which Tan y Derw leather you like best from the hides they keep in stock.

Thank you to all RED customers who choose leather from me- it keeps small scale non industrual methods alive when people support the makers, so thank you from the bottom of my heart, for choosing bark tan and choosing local.

It is an honour to see our leathers walking around as such beautiful footwear.

The leather is a blank canvas....

One of the special things about being a hide tanner is that it can't be a stand alone craft. In some ways we don't make anything- the eco system grows the animal, which grows its skin, my job is to preserve that skin in the best way that i can, then its onto the leather worker to make something useful, beautiful and durable to last a lifetime or longer.

All sorts of people buy these skins ranging from professional leather workers to complete beginners with a project in mind.

Below are just a few pictures of things made from my leather, some made by me and some made by students or professionals.
